Start Where You’re At
I’ve been “thinking about starting a blog” for over a decade, during which time I have made being intimidated by blogging into an art form. I wonder what would have happened if I had started back then, before I knew how, instead of right now, when I still don’t know how and I’m comically late to the party. I guess the important thing is that I’m starting.
Unlike making art, where I understand the value of spontaneity and happy accidents, meandering and detours, blogs seem like they need a plan. I’ve also heard you should write what you know. So I guess my plan is to uh, do that. I know about very few things in depth, and fewer still that I would enjoy writing about. The short list: trying to broker peace between art and design, working within the surface design and art licensing industries, and the ad hoc philosophical perspective I have come to trust to help me navigate the other two. Oh, and over-the-top gift wrap.
